A few HDR photos from around the Virginia Tech campus.
This is why I want the new Nikon D800! Compare this picture with a photo Cliff Mautner captured with the D800: http://cmphotography.com/images/content/Cliff_Mautner_3200c.jpg
Both of these photos are taken at ISO 3200 and are a 980 pixel crop at 100% of the original file. Look at how little noise is in the second picture! Although the lighting conditions are not identical this gives you an idea of how well the D800 can handle high ISO. It’d be especially nice for indoor track! Too bad the high ISO capabilities come with a $3000 price tag. Features I’d also love on the D800 include an improved 51-point autofocus system, 6 frames per second in DX mode and 36.3 megapixels!
The first picture is a picture I took at a Virginia Tech indoor track meet and shared in this earlier post: http://tumblr.com/ZHKUcwFD6G3K
The second picture is from Cliff Mautner’s blog: http://cmphotography.com/blog.cfm
It might be time to upgrade my D5000! Contact me if you’d like to contribute to the Help Andrew Kicinski buy a Nikon D800 Fund.

Last night I set out to try to capture some of the Quadrantid meteor shower. Although I did see a few I wasn’t able to capture any with my camera. Instead I made this quick star trail photo. It is composed of 52 photos each exposed for 30 seconds.
